Cheyney University to Host Hyatt High School Summer Bridge Program July 31 - August 5

Cheyney University's Hotel, Restaurant, & Tourism Management (HRTM) programhttp://www.cheyney.edu/hrtm/index.cfm will present the Hyatt High School Summer Bridge Program on its campus from July 31to August 5, 2016. The six-day residential program will introduce participants to the five major sectors of the modern hospitality industry - hotels & lodging, food & beverage, travel & tourism, recreation & leisure, and meetings & events.

In addition to working with Cheyney faculty, staff, and student mentors, participants will engage with industry guest speakers and enjoy presentations, daily health and wellness activities, and related behind-the-scenes field trips to a hotel, an amusement park, a sports stadium, a nature preserve, a restaurant and an airport.

Cheyney University HRTM Director Ivan Turnipseed is enthusiastic about the upcoming program.

"Students who are interested in trying out the college experience and learning more about the hospitality industry should consider applying. This is an exciting, hands-on and student-centered environment."

A $7000 grant from Hyatt Hotels Corporation covers the cost of the free program which includes all meals, lodging and necessary materials. There are openings for 16 participants. High school sophomores, juniors or seniors who are interested in the hospitality and/or culinary fields and have at least a 2.5 grade point average are eligible for participation.
