Students, professionals mingle at annual Career Exploration Day

A total of 46 companies from across the state of Mississippi visited Alcorn State University in an attempt to add students to their team.

The Office of Career Services held its annual Career Exploration Day Thursday, Sept. 20 in the James L. Bolden Ball Room. Students spoke with various companies about possible job opportunities that would be available to them in the future.

Dr. Joey Mitchell, director of Career Services at Alcorn, was pleased with the increased number of student participants in this year's event.

"The event had a great turnout," said Mitchell. "Participation has picked up, and I believe that is due to the relationships that the university has made with corporate America over the past few years."

Indria Sprivey, a sophomore business administration major from St. Louis, Missouri, believes the event will pay off before she completes her journey as a student.

"This was a wonderful experience," said Spivey. "I gained experience with talking to others and getting out of my comfort zone. I believe that the knowledge I gathered from the event will help me get a job before I graduate."

Ishmael Thompson, a senior business administration major from Vicksburg, Mississippi, said that the event equipped him with interviewing skills that will aid him in landing a job in the future.

"There were many employers here looking to hire qualified people for various positions," said Thompson. "This event has helped me to network and to prepare for interviews. This was a great opportunity, and I encourage all students to come to the annual event in the future."
