Howard University College of Pharmacy Earns Full Re-Accreditation

The Howard University College of Pharmacy has been awarded full re-accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, or ACPE. The ACPE is the national standard-setting organization for professional degrees in the education of pharmacists.

"The University sends its deepest appreciation to the dedicated faculty, staff, students and administrators for the hard work and effort put forth to continue to strengthen our pharmacy program," said Howard University Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Anthony K. Wutoh.
Dr. Wutoh said the first degree graduate of Howard University, James Thompson Wormley, received the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1870. "We are proud of the history of pharmacy education at the University and pleased that the program will continue to be fully accredited by ACPE," he added.

Full accreditation is awarded to programs that meet all ACPE standards for accreditation and. ACPE accredits doctor of pharmacy programs offered by colleges and schools of pharmacy in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. ACPE conveys its decisions to the various boards of pharmacy and makes recommendations in accord with its decisions.

"The accreditation decision is a reflection of the hard work of our faculty, staff, preceptors and students," said Dr. Toyin Tofade, dean of Howard University College of Pharmacy. "We are so proud of the leadership impact our students make after they complete our program.  Howard University continues to be sought after for collaboration and partnerships due to our graduates."

The College of Pharmacy currently offers an entry level four-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree program, a non-traditional Pharm.D. degree program, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences. During its long history, the college has graduated 3,424 men and women, including 2,202 with the B.S. degree in Pharmacy, and 1,182 with Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
