One Day, One Goal, One Hampton: Hampton University 5th Annual Day of Giving April 13, 2018

On Friday, April 13, Hampton University will celebrate its 5th Annual Day of Giving.

Hamptonians at home and at heart will stand together during the 24-hour event in giving back to the university. This unique opportunity is designed to engage alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff and friends. This year, in honor of the University's establishment 150 years ago, the goal to reach is 1,868 donors!

"I encourage all those who love Hampton to give as their means allow because all monies raised go towards scholarship support for students," said Dr. William R. Harvey, Hampton University President for 40 years. "The support in real dollars from the alumni, family, friends and students is a testament to the respect and appreciation that they have for this world-class institution.  Making a gift also helps Hampton stay competitive in national rankings, increases the value of every degree, and gives charitable organizations and foundations the confidence to invest in our university."

"As we prepare for our 5th Annual Day of Giving, it is important to not only reflect on where Hampton is now, but also where we, as alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends would like to see the University go in the future," said Brint Martin, Director of Alumni Affairs. "Each of us, as Hamptonians, have a responsibility to take part in ensuring that the mission of our beloved alma mater - molding and educating future leaders - continues for years to come. This event is a perfect opportunity for the entire Hampton community to come together as one to make a meaningful impact for current and future students, and to preserve the 150 year legacy of our 'Home by the Sea.' Every gift, no matter how big or small, has the potential to make a world of difference."

Gifts of any size go where the donor specifies. Whether to a particular school, department, scholarship account or the general fund; every donation counts.

Donors have several ways to make their mark throughout the day. Opportunities include giving in person, a 24-hour telethon and an online giving form. Giving challenges will also be provided to help raise even more. Participation in the challenges can unlock additional funds from a challenge sponsor.

In addition, a celebration will be held in the University's Student Center from noon to 2 p.m. for students, faculty and staff. Festivities will include a live DJ, live student performances, an interactive photo booth, raffle giveaways, student testimonials and more.

Hamptonians across the globe are asked to make a financial contribution to their "Home by the Sea" on this special day. Giving back plays an essential role in preserving the Hampton legacy and improving the college experience for Hamptonians in the generations to come.

Hampton set a new record for a single day of fundraising during the 2017 Day of Giving when 2,002 donors gave more than $1.2 million to the University. The active influence of Hamptonians was on exhibit when all who cared deeply about Hampton showed their pride and generosity to their "Home by the Sea."
