2nd Annual Veterans Symposium to be held at Johnson C. Smith University

Metropolitan College at Johnson C. Smith University has partnered with the Student Veterans of America and My Veteran's Keeper to host the 2nd Annual Veterans Symposium, on Saturday, July 9, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., at the New Science Center, on the campus of JCSU, 100 Beatties Ford Road.

Building on the momentum from last year's symposium, this year the conference will focus on "Dispelling the Myths" for veterans and their family members. The conversation will focus on access to education, healthcare benefits, employment opportunities and training, financial aid, and social services for veterans, family members and active duty. The goal is to ensure that veterans and their families are aware of the resources available to experience a smooth transition and achieve a thriving livelihood upon return from military services. This free event is open to the community, veterans, family members and active duty personnel. All those interested are encouraged to confirm their participation by accessing this link: http://bit.ly/1OeJeJX

"We are thrilled to host this Symposium for the second year in a row, because it is aligned with our Veterans' Initiative goals, and with JCSU's promise to be a socially conscious organization that serves and empowers our citizens and leaders at all levels and sectors of our community", said Dr. Cheryl Curtis, Director of Educational Enhancement Services at Metropolitan College at JCSU.

The symposium will be a day for recognition, discussion and networking around key subjects. The event will bring together community leaders, residents, students and vendors who will share important information and resources. A keynote speech and a panel discussion with space for questions and answers will be part of the agenda, followed by a luncheon and a more personal opportunity to continue the conversation.

This is a unique event especially dedicated to the veterans in the area, and aims to serve the community where a big part of the target audience is based, which is the case of the Historic West End area of Charlotte.
