Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating Mifflin Gibbs.  Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1823, Gibbs was an activist in the abolition movement, sharing platforms with Frederick Douglass and helping in the Underground Railroad.  He was a successful merchant in San Francisco, California, founded a newspaper and was a leading member in the community.

Thursday, April 30, 3:00 ET, Free Live Webinar - The Faculty Sandbox: Faculty Involvement in Library Services

Description

It is no secret that in higher education one of the major challenges is getting faculty to use library resources and come to the library. What if you build a special room in the library just for faculty? Or, offered them a small stipend to incorporate technology in the classroom and treat them with some coffee, tea, and giveaways? Would they come?

In this webinar, Monika Rhue will share successful stories and tips on how the Johnson C. Smith University IT department and the library came together to build a Faculty Sandbox in the library.  Stipends were offered to librarians to serve as Faculty Technology Assistants to support faculty in infusing technology and information literacy into the classroom. The workshop will cover the results from the library database survey and technology survey that are being used to analyze different strategies for getting faculty into the library.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session the participant will have:

  1. A better understanding of how to successfully collaborate with their IT department
  2. Strategies for getting support from librarians and faculty to build a successful program
  3. Knowledge of the use of data to re-shape and re-examine motivating faculty usage of library resources and infusing technology into the classroom.

Suggested Attendance

Dean, Directors, Librarians and IT Directors will benefit from this presentation.
