Bennett College Receives $50,000 Scholarship Grant from Wells Fargo
Bennett College has announced a $50,000 grant from Wells Fargo in support of student scholarships. Dr. Esther Terry, interim president of the College said, "As Wells Fargo continues to offer unparalleled support of the Triad, I am humbled that Bennett College was considered worthy of one of their numerous community contributions. This substantial gift will greatly benefit the academic experience for many of our matriculating students."
Bennett is in the midst of a "Students First" campaign which puts students at the center of all planning and programming and prepares them to compete effectively in the 21st century workplace. This campaign will impact the student's total living and learning experience and will keep the College vigilant in creating an educational experience equal to any that the students could receive anywhere else. A core component of the campaign is to raise more scholarship dollars. Over 90% of students receive some form of financial aid.
Altriece Smith, a junior English major from District Heights, Maryland, is grateful for organizations such as Wells Fargo. "Contributing scholarship dollars not only transforms the lives of the students receiving the scholarship, but it will also transform the lives of all the people that we will touch once we earn our college degrees. So you see, it's not just the Bennett students that you are investing in...it's communities of people."
Leslie Hayes, Triad West Regional President for Wells Fargo, recognizes the increasing cost of college tuition and the importance of higher education. "Wells Fargo has a strong focus on supporting education and we are proud to support this scholarship fund. We know that the students of today are tomorrow's future leaders. They'll comprise our workforce and help define our economy. A college education helps ensure students receive the necessary skills and knowledge needed for success, both in business and life."
