Harris-Stowe State University is Awarded a $325,000 Grant from USA Funds
The three-year initiative promotes minority student success

For the past few years, Harris-Stowe State University has placed increased emphasis on student retention, timely degree attainment and producing work-ready graduates. A $325,000 USA Funds(r) grant was recently awarded to the University to help achieve these objectives. Specifically, the University will integrate data and more directly involve students to assess and track their academic and personal progress. The initiative will also include prompt and strategic intervention to promote early academic success and ongoing support to facilitate student retention to graduation.

Harris-Stowe is one of seven institutions to receive the USA Funds(r) grants totaling nearly $2.3 million. The three-year initiative funds the development and application of data tools and institutional practices that enhance the college completion rates and career readiness of first-generation, low-income and minority students.

"We are proud that Harris-Stowe's efforts to improve our students' academic and post graduate success are being recognized and supported," said Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack, president, Harris-Stowe State University. "This USA Funds (r) grant will enhance the University's innovative and data-driven decisions that positively impact our students."

The grant awards are part of the MSI Measuring College Value initiative, which is designed to support two-year and four-year minority-serving colleges and universities in measuring the value of their programs, improving student outcomes, and developing innovative approaches that inform the broader post-secondary education community of ways to increase program completion and advance the career readiness of their students.

Other institutions awarded grants through the competitive process include: Martin University in Indianapolis; Miami Dade College; St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Fla.; Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, Mont.; Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
