Wiley College News January 23, 2019 MEDCO Grant To Fund Renovations to KBWC FM 90.1, training space for Physical Education majors The Marshall Economic Development Corporation has awarded Wiley College a $100,000 grant to renovate its radio station as well as the training space for physical education majors and student-athletes. Funding from the grant will be used to equip the radio station, Keep Building Wiley College(KBWC) FM 90.1, with cutting-edge technology and resources that will be used to train mass communications majors in all operational aspects of the station, including broadcasting, production, programming, sound engineering, and station management. Students will use the station and their air-time to offer airplay to new and emerging artists, as well as broadcast news about Wiley and the surrounding community. Wiley's radio station, which is housed in the Fred T. Long Student Union Building, has been off the air since the building closed for renovations. With the student union now open, the College is delighted by and thankful for its partnership with MEDCO to return the station to the airwaves. The Medco grant will also enable the College to redevelop the Wiley-Pemberton Intramural Complex Physical Education Training Space into a modern training and instructional area with new equipment for use by physical education majors and student-athletes. "As Wiley College continues to grow and attract more students, our facilities and resources must be technologically advanced and innovative to properly train and prepare them to competently enter the workforce," said Dr. Herman J. Felton Jr., the President and CEO of Wiley College. "We are thankful to Donna Maisel and MEDCO for bringing the enthusiasm and support to enable our students to learn in an environment conducive to yielding success," he said, praising MEDCO and its executive director.
