Hampton University News October 2, 2020 Hampton University Partners with HBCU Heroes for the Adopt-An-HBCU Good Trouble Voter Drive Spearheaded by Celebrities Hampton University is partnering with HBCU Heroes (501c3), founded by NBA Veteran George Lynch, Tracey Pennywell & CNN/MSNBC Political Commentator Kwame Jackson, in the Adopt-An-HBCU Good Trouble Voter Drive. In partnership with WNBA star & activist Renee Montgomery, co-founder of Remember the 3rd of November (501c3), and the Good Trouble campaign, the social media campaign will feature a line-up of celebrity HBCU alum and supporters educating HBCU students about their voting rights and encouraging them to register to vote ahead of election day at http://www.hbcuheroes.org/vote. "It is wonderful to be a part of a collaborative effort aimed at educating and engaging our nation's HBCU students," said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey. "Participating in politics is a right in our country that must be treated with the highest regard. I believe it's paramount for all HBCU students to learn the importance of having their voices heard on both sides of the aisle." The Adopt-An-HBCU Good Trouble Voter Drive was born out of the partnership between HBCU Heroes and the Good Trouble campaign, which was launched by Participant, Magnolia Pictures, and Color Farm Media to encourage audiences to support voting rights and participate in civic engagement actions that empower disenfranchised communities to fully participate in our democracy. Historically Black Colleges & Universities had the single largest decline among demographics in voter participation in the 2016 presidential election, according to a Tufts University study. Throughout the campaign, which will run through Election Day, celebrities will "adopt" an HBCU and share personalized, informative messages with the goal of increasing HBCU voter participation in the November election. Former NFL All Pro quarterback and Hampton Roads resident Michael Vick will "adopt" Hampton University. Other celebrities participating in the drive include D.L. Hughley, Bill Bellamy, Chris Broussard, Akbar Gbajabiamila (co-host/American Ninja Warrior), and Kym Whitley, HBCU alumni of Fisk University. Sandra M.
