Alcorn student participates in national TV show "Black College Quiz"

Alcorn State University student Allen Nicholas found himself in Washington, D.C. for the first time in his life to participate in the 6th annual "Black College Quiz" quiz show series, and he placed second in the preliminary game. The show was taped on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. on December 1, 2011, and will be aired across the nation beginning January 22.

"We selected Nicholas to participate in the show because of his experience representing Alcorn in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge," states Dr. Lawrence Konecky, chairman of the Department of Fine Arts and a coach for Alcorn's team in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge. "We are proud of Allen placing second in his game. He lost just one question to the student who ended up winning the entire game."

Alcorn State University along with 11 HBCUs was invited to participate in the quiz show featuring Historically Black Colleges and Universities where students' knowledge on black history was questioned.

"It was my first time being on a national TV show and gave me the opportunity to do something I love - discuss my history. I enjoyed the entire experience so much," said Nicholas, a senior majoring in electro-mechanical engineering from Leland, Mississippi. "I knew my African American history pretty well and also learned new things studying the material for the show."

The scheduled air dates in Mississippi are as follows:

Hattiesburg-Laurel, MS WHPM FOX 2/12 @ 1:00 pm 2 hours

Jackson, MS WAPT ABC 1/22 @ 12: pm 2 hours
