School of Agriculture to host 4th annual Centers for Research Excellence Symposium

On Thursday, Feb. 8 at 9 a.m., the Alcorn State University School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, in conjunction with the School of Arts and Sciences, will host the 4thannual Centers for Research Excellence Symposium. The event will take place in the Alcorn State University Biotechnology Auditorium, Biotechnology Building, Lorman campus. Students, faculty, and staff, as well as interested parties from surrounding academic institutions, are highly encouraged to participate.

The Centers for Research Excellence Symposium (CRES) began in 2013 in an effort to prepare and expose students to the culture of scientific conferences.  The symposium serves as a professional but innocuous introduction. Students have the opportunity to experience various conference elements, including registration, abstract submission, vendor information, poster presentations and oral presentations.

The symposium is scheduled each year as a preface to the Mississippi Academy of Sciences' (MAS) annual state-wide scientific conference, allowing student presenters to refine their presentations in front of peers.  Presentations are accepted from various disciplines, including: Biotechnology, Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Math, Science Education, and Physics.

An invitation only luncheon will be provided for this event. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to hear and ask questions about the various educational opportunities available at Alcorn. For more information, contact Stampley, administrative assistant, at (601) 877-6678 or aastampley@alcorn.edumailto:aastampley@alcorn.edu.
