Coahoma Community College News March 27, 2017 CCC Health Sciences programs all achieve accreditation Coahoma Community College is securing its place as a premier health care training facility with the recent accreditation of its Health Sciences programs. As of this month, all of the institution's Division of Health Sciences long-term and certificate programs have achieved national and/or state accreditation, which ensures the quality and integrity of a program through the adherence to established standards. The Division, which serves about 125 students each semester, began the lengthy process two years ago with its Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. Since then, the Practical Nursing (PN), Nursing Assistant, Respiratory Care, Polysomnography (Sleep Technology), and, most recently, Paramedic programs have all achieved the lofty accomplishment. "The competency level of instructors, the efficient support of staff and the academic acumen of our students work together to elevate our health sciences division as one of the best educational training entities in the state of Mississippi," said CCC President Dr. Valmadge Towner. "We salute our Division of Health Sciences as they serve as a reminder of what we can do when we blend good leadership, unity, hard work and passionate students who love to learn." Four of the programs received a perfect rating or "no deficiencies", and one program received one deficiency, which was described as "an easy fix" by CCC Dean of Health Sciences Beverly Overton. "This means that our students are attending well-ran, high-quality programs," said Overton. "Our graduates' state board, registry and certifications reflect that." Overton said the achievement also serves as credibility to the community that CCC is graduating competent, well-trained healthcare providers. She credits her faculty and staff for the accomplishment. "Our program directors, faculty and staff members are the ones that planned and organized each respective programs to meet the required standards," Overton said. "I'm extremely proud of what they've accomplished. ...They could work anywhere, but they chose to work at Coahoma, and I am very grateful." The Division is planning to host an Open House in April to showcase its programs and new annex building currently under construction. In the meantime, Overton said the goal is to remain "audit-ready" at all times. "We're looking forward to continued growth and remaining a prominent healthcare provider within the community, the state and the region," Overton said.
