Bennett College Receives $625,000 Grant From the Joseph F. McCrindle Organization

Bennett College has announced a $625,000 scholarship grant from the Joseph F. McCrindle Foundation. The grant includes $600,000 for a Joseph F. McCrindle Scholarship Endowment and $25,000 to fund the scholarship recipient for next fall.

"This grant reflects the McCrindle Foundation Directors' interest in honoring Joe McCrindle's commitment to education. It is also a vote of confidence in Bennett College and its mission. The McCrindle board hopes this will encourage other foundations, corporations, and individuals to support scholarship funding at Bennett as well," said John T. Rowe,

president of the McCrindle Foundation.

Bennett President Esther Terry said she was humbled by this vote of confidence which comes so early in her tenure in the role of president. "It is an awesome beginning that bolsters my commitment to helping the College gain better financial health so as to better meet the educational needs of our students."

Iris Ramey, vice president for institutional advancement, echoes Dr. Terry's sentiments. "We are very grateful to the McCrindle Foundation for this investment in the College. It will create a powerful impact on our students' educational progress and the many contributions that Bennett College makes to society."

Additionally, the College has received financial support from several other sources within the past 30 days. In conjunction with the U.S Department of Education's Title III Program, Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the College was granted $1,457,849.

An additional $64,044 was awarded by the International Studies and Foreign Language Program (UISFL), making Bennett one of 17 institutions selected to strengthen its global studies and foreign language programs.
