Good Afternoon Everyone

Federal and Local Government Officials are important potential partners in our ability to provide resources and services.  From the “Library Services and Technology Act” to the “Fair Access to Science and Technology Research Act” and funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, our federal and local government can aid us in reaching and teaching our users.

The HBCU Library Alliance would like to encourage all of its members to become active and in cases where you already have experience to be more active in Legislative issues.  To that end we are asking everyone to please take the time to fill out the short survey below and send your answers by reply email to either Cynthia Henderson cynthia.henderson@howard.edumailto:cynthia.henderson@howard.edu or Jean Greene jbgreene@hindscc.edumailto:jbgreene@hindscc.edu

With these answers we look forward to being able to formulate some action steps for members to take before our membership meeting in October where there will be further discussion.

Here are the questions:

  1. Does your institution have a governmental relations or legislative representative?  Yes  No
  2. If your answer is yes then who is your governmental relations or legislative representative?
  3. Does your institution have legislative priorities?  Yes  No
  4. If your answer is yes then what are they?
  5. Does your institution meet with local or federal legislators on a regular basis?  Yes  No
  6. If so then are you a part of these meetings?  Yes  No
  7. Copyright legislation and Network neutrality are examples of legislative issues of interest to academic libraries, please let us know what you see as other legislative priorities of academic libraries?

Thank you so much for your participation.
