The HBCU Library Alliance/Harvard University Partnership press release posted to the Alliance's listserv on yesterday. After the message posted to the membership, Sandra received a call from Dean Tessa Perry, Virginia State University, informing her that the photo included in the press release had been published without Virginia State's permission. Dean Perry has asked that the photo be removed immediately and that a message be issued to the membership stating the photo was published without permission. Therefore, the Alliance is including the statement below from Loretta Parham sent to Dean Perry on yesterday regarding the photo. "Regarding the photo, please note that it was pulled/copied from the HBCULA Digital Library Collection by the AUC Woodruff Library for use in the announcing press release. I viewed it as educational or fair use, perhaps in error. So please accept my apology for not clearing this with you ahead of time, my mistake. Harvard communications immediately pulled the photo and as a digital item, when I re-checked the earlier version (with photo) that had been sent, the photo does not reappear. As we move forward with building out the collection, the use requirements will be made more prominent and include a process for the attention of all concerned.
