SC State University Foundation, Inc. Donates $150,000 for Student Scholarships
With a decline in federal and state funding, colleges and universities across the nation are experiencing a financial pinch. And for students whose families' household budgets are dwindling, attending college or completing their education may pose a financial challenge.
To alleviate such hindrances for SC State students, the SC State University Foundation, Inc. donated $150,000 to support students who are pursuing their higher educational goals.
For more than 40 years, the SC State University Foundation, Inc. has been committed to providing scholarships as well as service learning and career-related opportunities to the next generation of leaders.
"The SC State University Foundation is committed to enriching the lives of students who attend SC State," said Edward Williams, foundation chairman.
Williams encourages foundation supporters and alumni to make contributions to the organization so students have a better chance of reaching their full potential
"The mission of the foundation is to assist the university with its charitable giving, its fundraising and its efforts to award scholarships. Receiving gifts from donors and managing those gifts and funds will grow our investments and increase the amount of money that can be given to students," Williams explained.
President Thomas J. Elzey, who accepted the gift, along with Vice President of Institutional Advancement Sunya Young, was delighted to receive the donation.
"We appreciate this gift of investment to SC State University. The donation will make an immediate difference in the lives of SC State students who are in need of financial support to turn their dream into a reality," said Elzey.
To develop a foundation account, contact David Igiozee, foundation accountant, at (803) 516-4898. To make a donation to an existing account, contact Angelia P. Jackson, administrative coordinator for the Division of Institutional Advancement, at (803) 516-7190.
