North Carolina Central University News January 14, 2016 School of Education Ranked As A Top Online Program The master's degree program in Educational Technology at North Carolina Central University <http://www.nccu.edu/> (NCCU) has been named by U.S. News & World Report as the best online graduate program at any historically black college or university and second-best among all institutions in North Carolina. The degree, offered through the NCCU School of Education,<http://www.nccu.edu/soe> ranked nationally as 17th out of 188 programs included in the 2016 annual rankings for Best Online Graduate Education Program. "NCCU is extremely proud of the success of the Educational Technology Program," said Dr. Johnson O. Akinleye, NCCU provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. "NCCU is a premier university, and we continuously make significant contributions to the field of education with our stellar programs." The rankings are based on the following criteria: student engagement, student services and technology, admissions selectivity, faculty credentials, training and peer reputation. To determine the rankings, a program's score for each ranking indicator is calculated using data reported to U.S. News in a statistical survey. "It is great that the NCCU School of Education is recognized for the first-rate educational experience we provide to students," said Dr. Audrey W. Beard, interim dean of the NCCU School of Education. "We continuously strive for excellence in education." NCCU's Educational Technology Program<http://www.nccu.edu/curriculum/details.cfm?id=103> is designed to prepare graduates to serve as information and communication technologists and instructional designers in a variety of professional settings, including institutions of higher education (college resource centers), business, industry, and professional schools such as medicine, law, dentistry and nursing. Students learn the theory, practical tools and techniques necessary to analyze, design and manage an instructional resource program. The NCCU School of Education offers degree programs in elementary and middle-grades education; as well as educational technology; school administration; community; career and school counseling; communication disorders; and five concentrations in special education.
