Morehouse Named the Nation’s Best Liberal Arts College
By ADD SEYMOUR JR.

(Aug. 27, 2010) -- Morehouse is the nation’s best liberal arts college, according to Washington Monthly’s 2010 College Guide.

The Washington, D.C.-based magazine ranked the College 14th in the 2009 edition. But based on the magazine’s emphasis on social mobility, research and service to the country, the magazine’s editors said Morehouse is tops this year.

“Many of our best liberal arts colleges were founded with a specific mission in mind,” wrote the Washington Monthly editors in the magazine. “Morehouse enrolls an unusually large number of low-income men, graduates most of them, makes significant contributions to research and has an active ROTC program.”

Morehouse was ranked above Bryn Mawr College and Swathmore Colleges, which were second and third. Spelman College was ranked ninth.
