Fort Valley State University News January 13, 2014 FVSU plans day at the Georgia State Capitol In February, Fort Valley State University will paint the state capitol blue and gold when the university hosts a special day spotlighting the best the campus has to offer. FVSU Day at the Capitol will take place at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 in Atlanta. The highlight of the event will occur on the House floor at 10:30 a.m. when congressional leaders present an invite resolution to university president Dr. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith. "We want to be sure that alums and supporters won't miss this special occasion," said Kristie Kenney, director for the FVSU Foundation, Inc. "The theme is 'Dreaming and Doing: Innovations Inside and Outside of the Classroom.' We are going to spotlight our STEM programs, which will encompasses our Cooperative Developmental Energy Program, under its director, Dr. Isaac J. Crumbly. Additionally, we're showcasing the university's new Honors Program and Undergraduate Research Program." The event will initiate with a breakfast reception in the James H. Floyd Building. Inside room 216, FVSU members will have a unique opportunity to mingle with their local congressional representatives - such as the Hon. Calvin Smyre, dean of the Georgia legislature; the Hon. Freddie Powell Sims and the Hon. Patty James-Bentley. After the university receives an invitation resolution, the day will conclude with photographs in the rotunda. The last time that the university received a proclamation was in 1975, when Georgia Gov. George Busbee proclaimed Oct. 9 as "Fort Valley State College Day."
