Two HU Administrators appointed a College President this semester
This semester, two Hampton University administrators have been appointed president of an institution of higher education. This brings to 17 the number of HU administrators under the leadership of HU President Dr. William R. Harvey to become a college president or president of an organization.
In October, Dr. Rodney Smith, former HU Vice President for Administrative Services, became president of the College of the Bahamas, Nassau, The Bahamas. In November, HU Provost Dr. Pamela V. Hammond was named interim president of Virginia State University, effective Jan. 1.
"I am confident in Dr. Smith's and Dr. Hammond's leadership abilities," said Harvey. "They follow a great tradition of Hampton University administrators who have gone on to serve as executive leaders."
"It has been my pleasure to serve under Dr. Harvey," said Hammond. "I thank him for his mentorship and commitment to 'passing the executive torch' to others."
Throughout his 36-year career as president of HU, Harvey has demonstrated a strong commitment to the professional development of others. He not only mentors HU administrators he reaches out to others through the Hampton University Executive Leadership Summit. Now in its 14th year, Harvey established the Executive Leadership Summit to share his leadership principles with individuals at colleges, universities and other institutions who aspire to be executive leaders.
"I am honored to have served as president of Hampton University for 36 years," Harvey said. "Mentoring others and sharing the Harvey Leadership Model with aspiring executive leaders continues to be an important part of my life's work."
