ASU To Present One-Day Criminal Justice Training Conference
The thought of a loved one experiencing abuse in a nursing home is a family's worst nightmare. Albany State University is doing its part to combat mistreatment and educate the community about the  concerns of the aging. The Criminal Justice Department will host a one-day training conference Thursday, Nov. 20 that focuses on issues related to the care, safety and security of maturing adults. The theme is "Criminal Justice and Society: Responding to Aging America in the 21st Century."

The event will be held in the Billy C. Black Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features presentations from secret service representatives, local law enforcement agents and law professionals. Speakers will discuss topics focused on how to recognize abuse, ways to prevent scams, understanding legal issues and understanding law enforcement's response to senior citizens.

"Eventually, we will each personally face the situation of being a senior citizen or potentially caring for a senior citizen," said Dr. Marlene Ramsey, ASU assistant professor of criminal justice and forensic science. "The conference will spark local and regional awareness, and propel us into developing proactive ways to address issues about aging in America in the 21st Century."

Post-credit hours are available to members of law enforcement at a cost of $25, payable to the Albany State University Criminal Justice Foundation. A certificate of training is also available for any participant who attends at a cost of $25, payable to the Albany State University Criminal Justice Foundation.

The conference is free and open to the public.

For more information about how to register for the event, please contact Ramsey at (229) 430-4867 or visit http://www.asurams.edu/criminal-justice-one-day-training-conference/.
