Edward Waters College Alumna Named a Fulbright Scholar
Edward Waters College alumna Lauren Denise Pitts was recently named a Fulbright Scholar by the United States Department of State. The prestigious Fulbright Scholars Program is a highly competitive international education exchange program that awards grants to students, faculty or professionals who wish to study, teach and conduct research abroad.
Pitts will use her Fulbright Scholarship for a study and research grant in Barbados for the 2014-2015 academic school year. While in Barbados, Lauren will be conducting an exploratory pilot study examining the impact of father-daughter attachment and communication on the adolescent daughters' decision making concerning reproductive health, sexually risky behaviors and educational attainment/outcomes. This study is part of a larger study she will be conducting upon her return to the United States. Lauren will work with advisers and take classes at the University of the West Indies toward her doctoral degree.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities for students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and primary and secondary school teaching worldwide.
Lauren is currently enrolled at Drexel University pursuing a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership and Management with a concentration in Educational Administration degree and serves the university as a Fellowships Ambassador mentoring students being considered for international scholarly awards. Lauren is also a 2013 graduate of Drexel University where she earned a Master in Family Therapy.
Lauren is a 2007 graduate of Edward Waters College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She is employed by the Salem City School District and also serves as the Director of Youth & Family Advocacy for Teens on Track for Success.
