Laws Hall 1957 time capsule opened
DSU officials recently took a step back in time - specifically 55 years - as a time capsule was extracted May 21 from the cornerstone of Lydia P. Laws Hall in advance of its demolition later in the week.
The time capsule was placed in the cornerstone in the year following the 1962 completion of Law Hall - the first construction project under the 27-year presidency of Dr. Luna I. Mishoe (1960-1987).
The contents of time capsule included:

  • A 1961-1962 Delaware State College Catalogue.
  • The April 9, 1963 issue of the The Hornet student newspaper.
  • The May 1963 issue of The Echo DSC alumni publication.
  • The written program for the 71st Baccalaureate Service held May 26, 1963 in Memorial Hall.
  • The written program for the May 27, 1963 DSC Commencement ceremony, held at Memorial Hall.
  • The written program for the May 25, 1963 dedication ceremony of the Lydia P. Laws Residence Hall, which also included a bio of Lydia P. Laws.
The time capsule contents will be preserved in the University Archives located in the William C. Jason Library. Anyone interested seeing the Laws Hall time capsule items can contact Rejoice Scherry, University archivist, at ext. 6130.
