Colleagues,

I'm excited to share that Elizabeth "Jean" Brumfield, Distance Services Librarian, Prairie View A&M University (TX) will intern with the HBCU Library Alliance.  Jean approached Board Chair Henderson and me about an internship and the HBCU Library Alliance is the perfect fit for her interests. Jean is pursuing a PhD in Educational Leadership.

Jean's current position at Prairie View A&M includes online instruction, creating apps, and working with the Distance Education Council.  Before coming to Prairie View, she worked at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh as Manager of the Job Career Education Center and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Library and Information Science.  Jean is active in a variety of education and cultural organizations including the American Library Association, Ethnic & Multicultural Exchange Round Table, and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association.  She is published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Library and Information Service for Distance Learning; Journal of Library Administration and Management; Journal of Librarianship and Information Science; Journal of the American Society for Information Technology; and Multicultural Review.

Jean begins her HBCU Library Alliance internship by presenting a series of webinars on digital tools.  Join her to gain skills to showcase your digital collections.

Free Webinar: The Best Kept Secrets: Showcasing Digital Collections
Thursday, February 23, 2:00 ET

Description: As we now live in a society dominated by multimedia, there is an opportunity to preserve and highlight our collective history so that "our best keep secret" is a no longer a secret.  As a participant in the 2014 Emory Center for Digital Scholarship/HBCU Library Alliance Summer Institute, I learned ways to use resources such as WordPress, Omeka and mobile apps to create digital projects highlighting my university's resources.  Since that time, I have worked on other projects and learned various applications that may assist librarians in creating digital collections.  Through this webinar, you will learn various resources and mobile apps to create digital collections as well as a basic understanding of the benefits and challenges of these tools.

Take-aways: After this session, participants will have gained:

  1. Basic understanding of mobile apps

  2. Strategies to evaluate a variety of mobile apps

  3. Skills in using mobile apps to showcase library collections

Registration: Paste this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JNC37X8 into your address bar and register by Tuesday, February 21.  The registration link will be forwarded on Wednesday, February 22.

Stay tuned,

Sandra
