Division of Health Sciences Continues Record of High Pass Rates
The Division of Health Sciences is persistently and intentionally maintaining a reputation of high pass rates on state certification exams. The Associate Degree Nursing program has recently reported that 91 percent of its graduates passed their state licensure exam on the first try; 100 percent of ADN test takers from Coahoma Community College, however, has become licensed. 96 percent of Practical Nursing graduates in the LPN program has also become board-certified health professionals.
Students in both programs take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN(r)/ NCLEX-RN(r)) to show that they are prepared to practice professionally as nurses. Beverly Overton, dean of Health Sciences at Coahoma Community College, is exceptionally proud that test results are continuing to serve as proof of dedicated, hard-working staff and faculty.
The PN and ADN instructors are using the various kinds of classroom strategies that best suit the students' learning styles.
"Clinically prepared instructors coordinate various clinical experiences for the students," said Overton.  "There is frequent student advisement by faculty and available counseling with the student navigator located in the Mason Health Science Building."
Instructors in all Health Science programs continue to offer tutorial services and sessions after their class periods to assist students in learning the curriculum.
"The students are our customers and the reason that we come to work every day. We want the students to be successful in the programs," Overton added.
Contact the division's Associate Degree Nursing Department at (662) 621-4210 for more information. If you are looking to become an LPN, the Practical Nursing Department can be reached at (662) 621-4687.
