Gay, M.L.S., Prairie View A&M University - Elected to the Executive Board of the Texas Library Association (TLA): The first African-American librarian from a Texas HBCU to serve as Representative-at-Large for all Academic Libraries for TLA The John B. Coleman Library, Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), and Dr. Rosie L. Albritton, Director of Library Services are pleased to announce that Ms. Kimberly M. Gay, M.L.S., Head of Reference, Information Services, and Instruction, has been elected to the Executive Board of the Texas Library Association (TLA) as the Representative-at-Large for Texas Academic Libraries. Serving a three-year term, Ms. Gay will work with TLA and all Texas Academic Libraries to help support, promote and improve academic library services in Texas. Ms. Gay has been a member of TLA for more than ten-years, and a member of the PVAMU Library staff since 2006. From chairing state library committees, to working on a conference planning committee to helping host Former First Lady Laura Bush, who is a librarian, as she attended a TLA Conference Ms. Gay is looking forward to this new service opportunity at TLA. This election of Ms. Gay to the TLA Executive Board is an historical milestone for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Texas, as she is the first person of color elected to the Executive Board as the Representative-at-Large for all Academic Libraries in the State, in TLA's 113 years history.
