Ms. Kimberly M. Gay, M.L.S., Prairie View A&M University - Elected to the Executive Board of the Texas Library Association (TLA):  The first African-American librarian from a Texas HBCU to serve as Representative-at-Large for all Academic Libraries for TLA

The John B. Coleman Library, Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), and Dr. Rosie L. Albritton, Director of Library Services are pleased to announce that Ms. Kimberly M. Gay, M.L.S., Head of Reference, Information Services, and Instruction, has been elected to the Executive Board of the Texas Library Association (TLA) as the Representative-at-Large for Texas Academic Libraries. Serving a three-year term, Ms. Gay will work with TLA and all Texas Academic Libraries to help support, promote and improve academic library services in Texas. Ms. Gay has been a member of TLA for more than ten-years, and a member of the PVAMU Library staff since 2006. From chairing state library committees, to working on a conference planning committee to helping host Former First Lady Laura Bush, who is a librarian, as she attended a TLA Conference Ms. Gay is looking forward to this new service opportunity at TLA.

This election of Ms. Gay to the TLA Executive Board is an historical milestone for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Texas, as she is the first person of color elected to the Executive Board as the Representative-at-Large for all Academic Libraries in the State, in TLA's 113 years history.

She has been at Prairie View A&M University since 2006. Her Library Faculty Liaison Instruction Services including the main campus: College of Business, Department of Languages and Communications, College of Agriculture and Human Sciences, Department of History, College of Education, Sociology and Social Work, Political Science, College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology and University College. She is a fifth- generation Texan from Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Texas Library Association (TLA) is the largest state library association in the U.S. Its 7,000 plus members are employed in all types of libraries: academic, public, school, and special. TLA was established in 1902 to promote, support, and improve library services in Texas. TLA policy is set by a governing Council of elected leaders and is implemented by a board of directors (TLA Executive Board) and staff. The TLA office is located in Austin, Texas.
