Hampton University News July 9, 2021 Hampton University School of Pharmacy and Bethel High School Gift Scholarships to 'Gentlemen in White Coats' Students Hampton University's School of Pharmacy, in partnership with Bethel High School, has awarded two $600 scholarships to students who participated in the "Gentlemen in White Coats" (GIWC) program in 2020. The check presentation was held on May 26, 2021. "Congratulations to the men who are receiving these scholarships. I wish you luck and great success as I remind you to dream no small dreams," said Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. "I see a bright future ahead of these young men who have taken the initiative and the necessary steps to go above and beyond as high school students." "Gentlemen in White Coats" is a community service program that works to teach meaningful career and higher education planning. This program was originally started by a Hampton University doctoral student, Brandon Jones, who wanted to support and mentor students, inspiring them to dream big. The GIWC director and doctoral student, Justin Moody pursued donations from all over the country from former GIWC members and Hampton University alumni and faculty to provide scholarships to two Bethel students. Xavier Everson and Joel Hicks were each awarded a $600 scholarship to help with their higher education. "I am tremendously proud of our students within the "Gentlemen in White Coats" organization who have undertaken the responsibility of mentoring the next generation of pharmacists. Their involvement with students from Bethel High School is representative of the work that the GIWC has been doing over the past several years. The leadership exhibited by Mr. Justin Moody is outstanding, and I look forward to the continued impact of the GIWC in the local community. I wish to also recognize Ms. Crystal Stokes for championing our program and for encouraging our students to continue serving as role models."
