Virginia Union University Focuses on Increasing Latinx Enrollment

In partnership with the Virginia Hispanic Chamber (VHC), Virginia Union University (VUU) is looking to increase its enrollment of Latinx students.

The historically Black university (HBCU) will launch the Latin Studies program, which will open for enrollment beginning next fall. The program is part of a five year relationship to promote diversity on campus and provide other minorities higher educational opportunities.

Dr. Ingrid Bircann-Barkey, associate professor of Spanish at VUU, has been named dean of the proposed program, according to ABC8 Newshttps://www.wric.com/news/local-news/local-hbcu-creates-new-program-to-increase-latinx-enrollment/amp/.

"We begin to rebrand historically Black colleges and universities as historically Black culturally diverse universities," said VUU President Dr. Hakim Lucas.
