Elizabeth City State University News September 11, 2020 ECSU Awarded More than $15 Million in Grants Grants awarded to Elizabeth City State University continue to grow. According to the Office of Sponsored Programs, grant funding has exceeded $15 million. Director of Sponsored Programs, Annemarie Delgado, says that at the end of the 2020 fiscal year, ECSU received 40 awards totaling more than $15 million. "ECSU has expanded its grants portfolio and our faculty and staff from all disciplines are very much engaged in seeking external support. Our grant funding strongly represents the various interests and strengths of ECSU," said Ms. Delgado. "From student summer programs, to COVID-19 community healthcare programs, to aviation and workforce preparedness initiatives, ECSU's grant funding reflects our institutional goals and our focus on community engagement." According to Ms. Delgado, grant funding included $6 million in CARES Act funding, more than $3.3 million from the Department of Education for Title III and SAFRA grants, and more than $5 million in sponsored grant funding from various sponsors including, the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and the Golden LEAF Foundation. The ECSU Office of Sponsored Programs has been working to expand competitive grant opportunities and offer support through the grants process. Their efforts, in collaboration with faculty and staff, has resulted in high-profile grant awards that bring new research opportunities to campus, offering faculty and students a broader range of experiences and ECSU more exposure throughout the world of higher education. This past year, the Office of Sponsored Programs published its annual BEYOND Research Magazine<https://www.ecsu.edu/academics/offices/sponsored-programs/research_magazines/2020researchmagazine.pdf>that highlights the research accomplishments of its faculty and staff. "Continued growth in our research funding means more opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students to engage in active learning while participating in projects that help steer the course for their future professional endeavors," said Ms. Delgado.
