SC State Ranked #13th on U.S. News and World Report's Over Performing Schools in the Nation List

SC State University was recently ranked #13 on U.S. News and World Report's Over Performing Schools in the Nation list, with an overall score of +79. Earlier this year, SC State was ranked 5th among top public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the nation in the magazine's 2013 Best Colleges and Universities rankingshttp://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges.

This is the magazine's first-ever analysis of colleges in the national universities ranking categoryhttp://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2012/09/10/methodology-best-colleges-ranking-category-definitions-2 that are over performing or under performing their undergraduate academic reputations in terms of their overall Best Colleges 2013 rankingshttp://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges. This concept measures the degree to which a university's overall position in the rankings exceeds or falls short of its undergraduate academic reputation rank.

In the study, SC State performed well in key academic metrics such as; admissions selectively, financial and faculty resources, alumni giving, and graduation and retention rates. SC State was the only public HBCU to be recognized as an over performing University. All other top over performing universities were private schools and are relatively small research universities that grant fewer doctorates and conduct less research than others schools in their category.
