Tuskegee's Pointer honored AKA chapter's 'soror of the year'

The Beta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has honored Tuskegee University's Kimberly Pointer with its New Soror of the Year Award. She was presented with the chapter's award at its Founder's Day Luncheon and Celebration, held on Feb. 17 at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika.

The chapter's New Soror of the Year Award is bestowed annually to a new member who has demonstrated superior interpersonal skills, sisterly relations, knowledge of chapter operations, and personal civic and community involvement.

Pointer works in Tuskegee's Graduate School, where she serves as the executive secretary for the dean and vice president for research. She also holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Tuskegee. Her university service includes providing leadership to many units and campus events, including Tuskegee's Royal Court, the Tuskegee University Women's Club, the Tuskegee University Policy Committee as its secretary, and the Tuskegee University event staff.

She currently sings in a band and shares her musical talents with numerous church congregations, through many community events, and as a volunteer at the Magnolia Haven Nursing Home and the Tuskegee Veterans Administration Medical Center. Pointer also serves as a member of the Macon County Health Care Authority Board of Directors.

Chartered in 1936 at what was then Tuskegee Institute, the Beta Xi Omega chapter is a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. For more information about the organization, visit www.betaxiomegatuskegee.comhttp://www.betaxiomegatuskegee.com/.
