Coahoma Community College News August 12, 2019 Professional Development Conference for Adjunct and E-learning Instructors Approximately 106 adjunct instructors recently attended the annual Adjunct Pre-School Professional Development Conference hosted by Educational Outreach. With 63 participants at the morning session and 43 e-Learning faculty receiving training at the afternoon session, instructors teaching evening and/or online classes for the upcoming school term gained insight on a range of subjects related to their job positions. The Conference, themed "Continuity, Consistency, and Compliance," provided updates on SACSCOC (accreditation), QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan), the Achieving the Dream initiative (ATD), attendance, student learning outcomes, student support services, and student safety. It also provided training for e-Learning faculty and select new members of the e-Learning Core. The morning session presenters included Dr. Melvin Newson, who presented an overview of the Achieving the Dream Initiative; Margaret Dixon, who gave updates on SACSCOC Standards; Tony Brooks and Glynda Duncan (QEP), Dr. Luke Howard (Recording Attendance); Dr. Rolonda Brown (Student Learning Outcomes); Jeremy Pittman (Canvas Basics and Emails); Violene Williams (Updates on Library Services); and Dr. Stacy Jones (Newline Interactive Board demonstration). The afternoon sessions provided training for e-Learning instructors. Letha Richards lectured on setting up e-Learning Courses as well as 'Outcomes and Rubrics.' Joseph Mckee shared information about Arc Videos, Zoom and Communication in an e-Learning course and Canvas grade book. Other presentations were led by Dr. Stacy Jones (Learning Outcomes) and Jeremy Pittman (Using Google Drive in your e-Learning class). In addition to the technical training sessions developed to help instructors facilitate a high-powered online course, several instructors also presented on "Best Practices," which showed how the virtual resource can be fully utilized. Elizabeth Melton demonstrated how to set up group projects in an e-Learning class. Boschert focused her Best Practice talk on Student Interaction and Feedback, and Monica Moore-Johnson's topics were centered on teaching the learner and making the e-Learning course more practical. The 2019 members of the e-Learning Core group include Letha Richards, Joseph McKee, Margaret Dixon, Monica Johnson, Eyonne Furdge, Angela Reynolds, Dr. Boschert, Dr. Jones, Dr. Howard and Dr. Shirley Burnett. This 10-member group will vote on e-Learning policies and assist with standardizing learning outcome assessments, and activities for subject area taught via Coahoma's online platform.
