Grammy Award-Winning Vocalist Lalah Hathaway to Headline the Clark Atlanta University Guild's 21st Annual Jazz Under the Stars Benefit Concert May 3
Grammy Award-winning vocalist Lalah Hathaway will headline the 21st Annual Jazz Under the Stars Benefit Concert Saturday, May 3, at 7 p.m. on the Harkness Hall Quadrangle at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), 223 James P. Brawley Drive, S.W. Hathaway will conduct a private Master Class for selected CAU music majors on Friday, May 2.
Hathaway's voice possesses rich warmth that soothes your ears and holds you close. Born to R&B/soul music royalty, the three-time Grammy Award nominee and recent Grammy Award winner is a trained pianist and vocalist. Hathaway is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, and her career has spanned more than two decades.
Twenty-three years after the release of her first LP, her career continues to thrive. Hathaway's work includes multiple solor eleases, guest collaborations and a steady stream of unforgettable live performances. She has recorded and toured with several legendary acts including George Benson, Joe Sample, the late George Duke, Take 6, Marcus Miller, Rahsaan Patterson, Mary J. Blige, The Winans, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, David Sanborn, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone, Robert Glasper, Donald Lawrence, Eric Roberson, Grover Washington, Esperanza Spalding and Prince.
Hosted by the CAU Guild, with UPS(r) as the presenting sponsor, Jazz Under the Stars will be held rain or shine and will benefit CAU students in the performing arts. The platinum sponsors are Delta Air Lines and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The CAU Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the Jazz Orchestra also will perform. Live and silent auctions will take place.
Since 1992, the CAU Guild, which includes some of Atlanta's most influential women, has raised nearly $2 million in scholarships. Corporate tables and sponsorships are available.
