West Virginia State University Students’ Work Featured at Undergraduate Research Day

Fifteen West Virginia State University (WVSU) students will be showcasing their research Thursday, Feb. 25, at the state capitol as part of the 13th annual Undergraduate Research Day.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. until noon in the state capitol rotunda and feature research posters from students at colleges and universities from around the state.

WVSU student research on display will include bumble bees in Kanawha County, the effects of oil and gas pipeline drilling on soil and training dogs to find truffles.

The 15 WVSU students and their research on display are:
Josh Davidson, “Identification of Genes for Fruit Colors in Capsicum Annuum.”
Amanda Smith, “Anticancer Activity of Organometallic Compounds.”
Justin Sprandling, “Synthesis of a RuII/PdII Polypyridil Bimetallic Complex Anti-Cancer Agent.”
John Lucas, “Effect of Oil and Gas Pipeline Drilling Mud on Soil Properties.”
Claire Shanholtzer, “The Effect of Biochar on Soil Carbon Sequestration.”
Megan Guetzloff, “New Maps and Age Estimates for Landslides, Valles Marineris, Mars.”
Seth McCormick, “Trialing SucraShield on the Biocontrol Generalist Predator, Green Lacewings, Chrysoperiarufilabris.”
Laura Hedrick, “Diversity at WVSU Through the Eyes of its Students.”
Emma Nellhaus, “Sulfonation of Aromatic Esters for Polymeric Strength.”
