Student athletes collect and donate clothing to homeless shelters

Alcorn State University's student athletes showed their holiday spirit by helping the less fortunate.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a clothing drive Wednesday, Dec. 15. Student athletes spent the month of December collecting clothing donations for the homeless. The donations were taken to the Jefferson County Comprehensive Health Center in Fayette, Mississippi.

Michelle Harper, coordinator of student athlete services in the Office of Athletic Academic Enhancement and Compliance, was impressed with the students' caring gesture.

"The student athletes showed their generosity in helping others in need this holiday season," said Harper. "They cheerfully donated clothing and shoes to the community of Jefferson County. It gives them the opportunity to help individuals who are less fortunate than themselves."

Harper said that giving to the needy was the student athletes' way of thanking the community for supporting them in their respective sporting competitions.

"It is important for student athletes to give back to the communities that support them. The student athletes enjoy making a difference in people's lives and having a positive impact in surrounding areas."
