Kentucky State University News July 6, 2021 Kentucky State University professor to serve as president-elect of MANRRS A Kentucky State University professor will serve as the 2021-22 president-elect of Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS). Dr. Marcus Bernard, associate professor of rural sociology in Kentucky State University's College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences, will serve as 2021-22 president-elect of MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences). As a national officer, Bernard will represent universities and members across the country. He will be an ambassador for both MANRRS and Kentucky State with leaders across agriculture, agribusiness, and local, state and federal government. Bernard will also be a leader and innovator in the future of American agriculture and the food and fiber industries. According to 2020 data from the USDA Economic Research Service, one in six U.S. jobs are in the food and fiber industries. The COVID-19 pandemic created new challenges and "a new normal" in work and organizations, Bernard said. "I am excited to serve on the national MANRRS leadership platform to help meet these challenges," Bernard said. "In fact, I am humbled to serve the MANRRS students by working alongside current leaders in government, corporations, higher education, and non-profit organizations." Bernard said one of his goals over the next three years is to increase and strengthen partner engagement with MANRRS students and professional alumni. A national non-profit organization, MANRRS promotes academic and professional advancement by empowering minorities in agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences. MANRRS has more than 8,000 students, alumni, and professionals within six regions, 65 collegiate chapters, 38 states, and Puerto Rico. MANRRS, according to its press release, is committed to developing the next generation of agricultural leaders and looks forward to working with Bernard and Kentucky State University. Sandra M.
