Kometa William Mufor, an accounting student at Grambling State University had the privilege of being accepted into Harvard Extension School, a prestigious Harvard University summer research program.
He's the first GSU student to ever to be accepted to the program, and says the experience will open many doors of opportunities in his life.
"During the eight weeks, I was able to compete, network and share professional advice with some of the world's future leaders," he said. "Going to Harvard has not only made me an outstanding student, but has also gained me respect among my peers, community and family," said Mufor.
The learning approach at the program was a little different than what Mufor was accustom to, whereas classes were very interactive, high tech (streamed live) and very challenging.
"Most of my work was done on excel, cyber text, on my business website, and we often worked as a team to develop a model that suites a specific scenario/case," Mufor said.
The overachiever subscribed to several professional journals such as the New York Times and made use of unlimited access to the library on Harvard's campus in order to be on the same page with his peers.
Graduate, undergraduate, and business professionals were taught and evaluated by the same professors.
"By the end of the program I was proud to be able to record transactions, prepare financial statements, develop balance sheets,  and document statement of changes in equity and cash flow statements for internal and external purposes," he said.
Aside from the classroom, Mufor was able to attend leadership conferences that where held on campus for finance and business professionals.
Since his return from Harvard University, Mufor has gotten various job offers and internships from Lockheed Martin, KPMG (which he accepted) and many more.
KPMG located in Shreveport is one of the largest professional services companies in the world and one of the Big Four auditors, along with Deloitte, EY and PwC.
"I am excited, and I believe I will gain experience by participating in the internship at KPMG," Mufor said. "This is a stepping stone to assist me in reaching my dream career," he said.
Mufor explained that the internship will help him grow and learn how to help understand national and international clients. It will also prepare him to successfully pass his CPA exam.
