I trust you're well. Today I'm celebrating Norma Merrick Sklarek, the first licensed woman architect in the U.S. Sklarek was born on April 15, 1928 in New York City and studied architecture at Columbia University. After working for several major firms, she was the first black woman to receive a Fellowship by the American Institute of Architects and in 1985 she helped form an all-female architecture firm.

To foster leadership and staff development within our libraries, the free live-online class "Using Data to Leverage Support for Your Library" will be presented on Thursday, April 25, 2:00 ET. Mantra Henderson, Director of the James Herbert White Library at Mississippi Valley State University, is instructor for this informative class.
Mantra earned her master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2001 and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Jackson State University (MS) in 1993. She is a graduate of the HBCU Library Alliance Leadership Institute II, an ALA Spectrum Scholar, and has participated in the Peabody Leadership Institute and the Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. Mantra is currently pursuing a doctorate in Professional Studies/Education with a concentration in Higher Education.

By the end of this class, participants will be able to:
Articulate the importance of data to advocate for your library.
Identify various sources from which library data can be obtained (i.e. The State of Libraries at HBCUs, ACRLmetrics, NCES, and WorldCat Collection Analysis)
Utilize library data to help strengthen collections, thereby positioning your library for growth.
Utilize library data to leverage support for your library.
Intended Audience: Library leaders with an interest in understanding data and how it can be used to support the future of libraries.
