Jackson State University News August 18, 2016 JSU will host international science symposium Sept. 11-14 Jackson State University's College of Science, Engineering and Technology will host the 13th Annual International Symposium on Recent Advances in Environmental Health Research. Scientists from a multitude of countries, representing five continents, are expected to participate. The symposium, scheduled Sept. 12-14 at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Jackson, will provide the most up-to-date information about global research and education in the fields of environmental health, biomedical science and public health. Paul B. Tchounwou, symposium chair and JSU's associate dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, said, "We expect to have a very productive gathering. Last year we welcomed representatives from 22 countries to this event." Agenda highlights will include plenary sessions, student and faculty presentations and lecture series. Selected topics for the symposium: ? New Frontiers in Environmental Health Research ? Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Nanotoxicology ? Environmental Toxicology and Health Risk Assessment ? Emerging Topics in Computational Biology and Environmental Modeling ? Health Disparities and Environmental Security ? Medical Geology and Human Health ? Natural Resources Damage Assessment and Management There will be a pre-symposium workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 in JSU's John A. Peoples Science Building, Room 118. The topic will be "National Library of Medicine (NLM) Web-based Resources for Environmental Health & Biomedical Research." Additionally, the goals of the symposium are to increase awareness of pandemic environmental and public health issues facing the international community and to promote interdisciplinary discussions and scientific collaborations.
