ASU Announces Partnership With Regions Financial

Alabama State University and Regions Financial today announced the formation of the Regions HBCU Partnership, a collaboration with ASU and five other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the southeastern United States. The partnership with ASU and the other universities will support financial education, academics, athletics and alumni engagement.

The partnership kicks off during the fall of 2012 at Alabama State University, Alabama A&M University, Florida A&M University, Jackson State University, Spelman College and Tennessee State University, said Zillah Fluker, ASU's associate vice president for Development.

"By preparing tomorrow's leaders to be successful in all aspects of their college careers at ASU, our partnership with organizations like Regions will assist Alabama State University to continue contributing to our students' success in life, and to the well-being of the communities they call home," Fluker said.

Key components of the Regions ASU/HBCU Partnership include a financial education curriculum for students; mentoring and recruiting on campus; alumni engagement through homecoming and athletic sponsorships; establishment of a financial education student chapter; and an executive lecture series in collaboration with ASU's College of Business Administration, said John Owen, senior executive vice president and head of business lines for Regions Financial.

"We look forward to strengthening our existing relationships with these outstanding institutions and supporting their efforts to advance people of all backgrounds," Owen said.

The Regions HBCU Partnership builds on the company's existing relationships with a number of HBCUs and support for various events, including being the official bank of Alabama State University's Magic City Classic, which is played in Birmingham, Ala.

"ASU looks forward to expanding its association with Regions Financial and is thankful for its interest in furthering the success of our University's most important asset, its students," Fluker said.
