Alcorn State University Wins $50,000 from Home Depot Retool Your School Contest

Alcorn State University finished 2nd place in Cluster 2 in the Home Depot Retool Your School contest. This year's project is to upgrade the Game Room in the James Bolden Student Union.
A hybrid Retool Your School Winners Ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 26, to celebrate the participating schools and the 2022 voting season. The event was hosted by actor and HBCU alumni Laz Alonso. In addition, actor, entertainment reporter, model, and HBCU alumnus, Terrence J participated in a fireside chat.
"Our goal is to transform the popular game room located on the main floor of the Union to enhance students' educational experience. We will modernize the space, including painting, adding artwork, new flooring, lighting upgrades, and purchasing gaming furniture," said Dr. Natasha Hutson, assistant vice president of Student Development and dean of students. "We would also like to redefine the spaces to include zones for video gaming, board games, billiards, and arcade-style games. These upgrades will give the game room a fresh look and feel for the new generation of gamers."
Participating HBCUs were separated into three clusters based on student population. The top ten schools with the most votes per cluster will receive grants ranging from $20,000 to $75,000. Additionally, the Campaign of the Year award of $45,000 was presented to the school, whose campaign proved to be most original, innovative, and particularly effective for galvanizing its community to drive votes for the program.
