Johnson C. Smith to Offer First Graduate Degree
Johnson C. Smith University today announced approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to offer its first graduate degree, a master's of social work, beginning in fall 2014.
University officials say that the program will likely be considered for accreditation by the Council on Social Work (CSWE) in February of next year, with the goal of full accreditation by 2015, pending final approval by the SACS Commission on Colleges.
"This is a historic period at Johnson C. Smith University as we move from a bachelor-degree-granting institution to one that offers an even higher level of education," said Ronald L. Carter, president. "Our Master of Social Work is designed to meet the needs of our students and the community at large, fulfilling our mission as a new urban university."
