FSU Trustee Selected for Inclusion in N.C. Women's Hall of Fame

Dr. Ruth Dial Woods, a member of the Fayetteville State University (FSU) Board of Trustees, is among four women selected to The North Carolina Women's Hall of Fame. The North Carolina Women's Hall of Fame recognizes women for their outstanding accomplishments in the State of North Carolina.  It was launched in 2009 as an initiative of the organizations' annual conference.

Inductees have demonstrated a lifetime of achievements including community service, professional leadership, and advocacy on women's issues.  Past recipients have included Judge Patricia Timmons Goodson, a member of the North Carolina Supreme Court; philanthropist Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans, a member of Duke University's founding family; and Katie Lee Dorsett, the first African-American woman to serve on the Greensboro City Council.  Inductees will be honored during the North Carolina Women's Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon held at the conference at a later date.

Woods, a native of Pembroke, currently serves as Executive Director of Sacred Pathways, a non-profit, faith based organization that provides services that are focused on the homeless, the hungry, addicts, and persons in crisis.  She began her second term on the FSU Board of Trustees July 1, 2011.  As a member of the board, she serves on the Trustee Governance Committee and a liaison to the Strategic Planning and Budgeting Committee.

Woods received her bachelor's degree from Meredith College, a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and a doctorate from South Carolina State University.  She also holds a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

A constituent institution of the University of North Carolina, FSU is the second-oldest public institution in North Carolina.  With nearly 6,000 students, it offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
