Jackson State University News July 2, 2019 Junior named director of Two Mississippi Museums o Pamela Junior, Jackson State University alum, has been named director of the Two Mississippi Museums<https://www.mdah.ms.gov/2MM/> located downtown in the capital city. Junior joined the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Museum Division in 2017 as director of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Together the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum have attracted over 320,000 visitors since its December 2017 opening, according to an MDAH press release. "I'm elated to be at the helm of the Two Mississippi Museums. We are pulling up our sleeves and continuing the work in making sure that the stories are told truthfully with integrity and vigor," said Junior, who holds a bachelor's degree in education from JSU. Junior's new position is in light of the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum merging their staff to strengthen programming and visitor experience. The alum is excited about the change and the opportunity to continue doing what she loves. "The stories of Mississippi are a mixture of emotions, and we are here to make sure that the experience is one that you will never forget. Staff members and I invite you to come out and take the entire journey with us through the history of Mississippi," she said. Before joining the Two Mississippi Museums staff, Junior served as manager of the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center in Jackson. Additionally, the current MDAH Museum Division Director Lucy Allen is retiring after 40 years of service to the department. Cindy Gardner, a 20-year-employee, who worked side-by-side with Allen as site manager for the two museums, will take her place. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is the second-oldest state department of archives and history in the United States. The department's mission is to inspire the discovery of stories that connect lives and shape futures by preserving Mississippi's diverse historic resources and sharing them with people around the world.
