Lincoln University Researcher Earns Energy Grant
June 24, 2010
Jefferson City, MO: Lincoln University Associate Professor of Research, Dr. Hwei-Yiing Johnson, was recently awarded a $40,000 grant from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The mission of the Energy Conservation Award for Faculty grant is to promote energy conservation among students, administration and the community. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund awarded just two $40,000 grants after a rigorous application process over the course of the 2009-2010 academic year.
Dr. Johnson will use the funding for work on her "Green Roof and Green Wall Construction for Energy Conservation in Central Missouri" project. The scope of the project includes the design and installation of a green roof and green wall at the university's Allen Busby Agricultural Research Farm. Green roofs and walls combine the use of vegetation with manmade structures, for insulation, natural cooling of the building and shade.
