Greetings Colleagues,

I trust you're well.  Today I'm celebrating Rebecca Lee, the first African-American woman who in 1864 received a medical degree from the New England Female Medical College. Along with Rebecca Cole and Susan McKinney, Lee is one of the first African-American female physicians.

Free Webinar: That's what "Friends" are for: Connections to Donors, Promoting Use and Preserving Knowledge - Tuesday, March 8, 2:00 ET

Description: The James H. White at Mississippi Valley State University is seeking opportunities to combine all traditional methods of fundraising under the umbrella of a "Friends of the Library" group. After experiencing budget cuts for four years, the Library must create additional revenue streams to maintain and augment current services. Working in conjunction with the Library Committee, the Advancement office and the MVSU Foundation, MVSU's journey begins to establish the Friends of the J.H. White Library.

This class will discuss information necessary for establishing a "Friends of the Library" group.  It will begin by defining the role of a "Friends of the Library" group and continue by listing and discussing the benefits of a "Friends of the Library" group.  The class will then provide guidelines necessary to establish a "Friends of the Library" group.  Finally it will provide links to resources necessary to establish "Friends of the Library".

Directors and staff who are seeking additional funding to expand library resources and support are encouraged to attend.

By the end of this class attendants should be able to:

  • Successfully articulate the role of a "Friends of the Library"

  • Successfully discuss the benefits of a "Friends of the Library" group

  • Know the process or steps necessary to establish a "Friends of the Library" group

  • Access additional resources necessary for establishing a "Friends of the Library" group
