CAMPUS POLICE EQUIPPED WITH BODY CAMERAS
Jefferson City, MO- While more law enforcement agencies across the country are considering their use, body cameras are now standard issue for officers within the Lincoln University Police Department. The department purchased four body cameras at the end of the last academic year, and officers began wearing them at the start of the new school year in August 2016.
The cameras and necessary accessories were purchased at a total cost of $7,410. The Panasonic camera on an officer's uniform connects to the in-dash camera system in the patrol vehicles. Officers received training on the cameras over the summer, before deploying them at the beginning of the fall semester. During a regular shift, there are up to three patrol officers on duty and each officer wears one of the body cameras.
Lincoln University Police Officers are commissioned peace officers with arrest and other police powers within the state of Missouri. The department collaborates with local law enforcement including the Jefferson City Police Department, Cole County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol on criminal investigations that expand beyond the jurisdiction of the agencies.
