Bethune-Cookman University News February 2017 Bethune-Cookman University Concert Chorale Records Live Album on the Tail of their Performance at The White House The B-CU Concert Chorale is in preparation for the release of their upcoming album expected to debut October 2017. The B-CU Concert Chorale, HBCU Records and the Curb Institute have partnered to produce the chorale's first album under the direction of Mr. Damon Dandridge. This comes on the heels of a historic performance for the Obama's at the White House. This is a student driven project with mass communications and music recording technology students working on the production, marketing, advertising and scripting of the album. "It is important that we highlight the talents of our students and help them get to the next level, which is why we wanted them to be fully hands-on working with experienced professionals on this project," said Dr. Pamela Browne, Executive Director of The Curb Institute at B-CU. Mr. Dandridge, who has directed the Concert Chorale since 2008, has expressed great interest in collaborative efforts to expand the vision and opportunities for the chorale. "This opportunity is a dream come true to record an album and possibly win a notable award for our work," said Dandridge. The album will focus on, "Remembering and Recovering Gems of Choral Music by African-Americans," Dr. Browne stated. The CD also contains gospel music, original compositions, along with a documentary about the history of the B-CU Concert Chorale. Additionally, the chorale recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to perform during a White House Holiday Party where they presented holiday themed music from a variety of holiday traditions, including Christmas, Chanukah, Bohemian, and jazz. President and First Lady Obama welcomed the chorale and shared that he was impressed with their talent. Keisha Kimbrough, a senior criminal justice student, described the White House Holiday Party as 'wondrous,' and one she would never forget. "President Obama congratulated us on being selected to perform; we are special and blessed," Mr. Dandridge added. The chorale's next performance is Sunday, February 26th 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Fort Myers, Florida (8570 Cypress Lake Drive). The concert is open to the public and a ticket is not required.
