Hi Sandra,
Can you share the message below with the HBCU Library Alliance membership?  Perhaps they know of undergraduate students at HBCUs who might benefit from this opportunity.

Best,
Andrea

[cid:softbank_ne_jp.4F2@goomoji.gmail] Taronda Spencer Award [cid:softbank_ne_jp.4F2@goomoji.gmail]

Taronda Spencer was a member of the Society of Georgia Archivists (SGA) for fifteen years. She served on the Board of SGA and was a perennial contributor to many SGA scholarship funds. Her most notable work with the organization brought the annual meeting in 2006 to her alma mater, Spelman College. Ms. Spencer served as a mentor to many students (including past SGA scholarship winners) and personally influenced multiple Spelman students to enter the profession. She was also an active organizer of the HBCU Archives Institute, a charter member of the Academy of Certified Archivists, and served SAA as Chair of the Archivists and Archives of Color Roundtable as well as a Nominating Committee member.

To honor her work in encouraging students at HBCUs and students of color to consider careers in the archival profession, the Society of Georgia Archivists established the Taronda Spencer Award, supporting student attendance at the Annual Meeting in November 2014.

The award would go to a student who is:
· Enrolled as a junior or senior at an HBCU and has a demonstrated interest in Archives
· A current student of African-American, Asian/Pacific-Islander, Latino, or Native American descent enrolled in a graduate program with a component in archival studies

The recipient receives full complimentary registration to the 2014 annual meeting, complementary hotel registration, and $300 for travel expenses.

Applicants for the award may self-nominate or be nominated by others. Applicants will submit a letter of interest with supporting documents to the Board of the Society of Georgia Archivists by August 22, 2014. Letters should include the student’s current enrollment status, a statement describing their interest in a career in archives, and a letter of recommendation from a faculty/staff member or archivist with personal knowledge of their interest. The recipient will be announced by August 27, 2014.

Nominations should be sent to scholarships@soga.orgmailto:scholarships@soga.org.

If you would like to donate to the Taronda Spencer Award, please visit the SGA donations pagehttp://soga.org/involvement/donate.

Thank you,
